FAQ: Queer the Church:

Faith From the Edges

Your Questions, Answered with Love and Maybe a Wink

  • Great question… and nope, it’s not just about sexuality.

Here, queer is a verb. To queer something is to look at it differently, shake off the dust, and ask; “What if there’s more going on here than we’ve been told?” This series invites everyone, queer or not, to reimagine Church through the lens of love, liberation, and voices that don’t always get the mic.

  • Not even close.

This series is for anyone who’s ever felt a little too weird, too loud, too wounded, too complicated, or just not quite at home in “Church-as-usual.” Queer people are at the heart of this… because their stories matter… but the invitation is wide open. If you’ve ever felt on the edge of things, you belong here.

  • Spoiler: the Church already has queer people.

We’re not turning the Church into anything new. We’re returning it to what it was always meant to be: a place where all people are welcomed, celebrated, and called into community. This isn’t about rainbow-flavored takeover. It’s about making space for everyone, including those who’ve been told they don’t belong.

  • Because it’s real, it’s honest, and it tells the truth.

We get it… “queer has a history. For some, it’s a wound. For many, it’s become a word of healing, creativity, and defiance. We use it here intentionally, to remind ourselves that faith isn’t about comfort zones. It’s about transformation. And transformation almost always starts with a little discomfort.

  • They’ll be about us. All of us.

We’ll be exploring five themes: Unseen, Unspoken-for, Unfinished, Unhealed/Untouchable, and Unsettled. These aren’t just “queer issues,” they’re human ones. The texts come from Acts, John, Galatians… and they challenge us to listen deeply, widen our vision, and follow the Spirit wherever she leads.

  • Absolutely. You might be surprised.

This series might just help you reconnect with a part of yourself that’s been sitting quietly in the back row… your doubts, your questions, your longing for a more honest kind of faith. Queering the Church isn’t about exclusion. It’s about making room. And yes, there’s room for you, too.

  • It’s a biblical series. And let’s be real… Jesus was kind of a troublemaker.

He fed people without asking if they were worthy. He flipped tables. He called out religious gatekeeping. That’s political. It’s not about taking sides. It’s about taking a stand for love, justice, and community. If that feels political, maybe it’s because the Gospel has always challenged the status quo.

"UNSEEN" - June 1

Sometimes freedom begins in the shadows. A girl enslaved, a jailer who doesn’t yet see, a prayer from Jesus that we would all be one. This week, we begin at the edges, where people and stories often go unseen. But what if the Spirit is showing up there first? What if becoming “one” starts by seeing what we’ve ignored?

"UNSPOKEN-FOR" - June 8

At Pentecost, the Spirit doesn’t stick to the script. She speaks through the unexpected, the overlooked, the uncredentialed. Jesus promises an Advocate who will live in us and keep revealing truth. This week, we ask: Who has been spoken over, spoken for, or silenced altogether? And how do we make room for voices that were always meant to lead?

"UNFINISHED" - June 15

Faith isn’t a finished product, it’s a process. A becoming. A tension between what is and what could be. Jesus tells his followers, “There’s more to say, but you’re not ready yet.” This week, we hold space for what’s still growing... in our lives, in our communities, and in the Church. Because being “unfinished” isn’t a weakness. It’s a holy beginning.

"UNHEALED/UNTOUCHABLE - JUNE 22

This week, we meet someone shackled by fear and stigma. Someone society cast out. Someone Jesus saw. The truth is, many of us carry wounds the Church has tried to ignore... queer folks, yes, but also trauma survivors, neurodivergent folks, people who’ve been told to keep their pain quiet. In the kin-dom of God, no one is too broken to belong. We are healed, not by hiding, but by being held.

Galatians 3:23–29 & Luke 8:26–39

"UNSETTLED" - June 29

Jesus sets his face toward Jerusalem, and everything becomes urgent. The kin-dom doesn’t grow through comfort. It grows through courage. Paul reminds us that freedom isn’t self-indulgence, it’s love that bears fruit. This final week of Pride Month invites the whole Church to get unsettled, and to follow the Spirit into liberation we didn’t plan for, but deeply need.
