Jesus Said What?! When the Gospel isn’t comforting… it’s confronting.

This September, we’re diving into some of the hardest, most unsettling words Jesus ever spoke.

Words that shock us.

Words that confront our comfort.

Words that just might transform the way we live our faith.

Each week, we’ll wrestle with one of these provocative sayings of Jesus and discover together how they challenge us toward a more authentic, liberating discipleship.

Join us for Jesus Said What?! - a worship series that doesn’t shy away from the tough questions.

Sundays in September, 10:00am EST (onsite & online)

"Hate Your Family"

September 7

Jesus Said What?!
When the Gospel isn’t comforting… it’s confronting.

Week 1: “Hate Your Family?!”
Deuteronomy 30:15–20 & Luke 14:25–33

Jesus says we have to hate our families, carry a cross, and give up everything to follow him.
…Excuse us, what now?

This week’s worship launches a bold new series that looks straight at the words of Jesus we’d rather ignore—and what they might actually mean for our lives today. Paired with an ancient call from Deuteronomy to choose life, we’ll explore what it means to make faithful choices even when the path is disruptive, uncomfortable, or downright confusing.

What if following Jesus means losing more than we expected?
What if that’s exactly where new life begins?

Come curious.
Come unsettled.
Come ready to hear Jesus… differently.

"God Throws Parties for Sinners"

September 14

Jesus Said What?!
When the Gospel isn’t comforting… it’s confronting.

Week 2: “God Throws Parties for Sinners”
Exodus 32:7–14 & Luke 15:1–10

Jesus tells a story about a shepherd who leaves behind 99 sheep just to find one lost one. And about a woman who throws a full-on celebration because she found a missing coin.

Meanwhile, God is furious about the people’s idolatry in the wilderness… and Moses somehow talks God out of total destruction.

What kind of divine logic is this?
What if God’s idea of justice looks more like mercy?
What if grace really is as outrageous as it sounds?

Join us for week two of our worship series as we follow a God who doesn't give up on the lost, throws parties we don’t think people deserve, and keeps rewriting the rules we thought were set in stone.

"Crooked People and Holy Moves"

September 21

Jesus Said What?!
When the Gospel isn’t comforting… it’s confronting.

Week 3: “Crooked People and Holy Moves”
Psalm 113 & Luke 16:1–13

Jesus tells a story about a corrupt manager who cheats the system—and then seems to praise him for it.

Wait... what?

Is Jesus seriously saying we should be more like this shady character?

It’s one of the strangest parables in the Gospels, and this week we’re diving straight into it. Paired with a psalm that lifts the lowly and honors the poor, we’ll ask:
What if holiness doesn’t always play by the rules?
What if the Gospel upends what we thought was fair?

This Sunday is for the scrappy, the sideways, the survivors—and everyone who’s ever been told they don’t measure up to someone else’s idea of “righteous.”

"You Knew. You Did Nothing."

September 28

Jesus Said What?!
When the Gospel isn’t comforting… it’s confronting.

Week 4: “You Knew. You Did Nothing.”
Psalm 146 & Luke 16:19–31

Jesus tells a story about a rich man who steps over a poor, suffering man every day—and ends up begging for mercy in the afterlife. His crime? He knew. And he did nothing.

Meanwhile, Psalm 146 reminds us that God lifts up the poor, feeds the hungry, and sets the prisoner free. The question is: do we?

What if Jesus isn’t warning us about hell—but about complicity?
What happens when comfort keeps us from compassion?

This week, we close out the series with a powerful call to wake up, speak up, and live like the Gospel means something. Because the worst thing we can do... is nothing.
